My Journey from Fashion to Interior Design

The Evolution of Passion and Craftsmanship

When I was a kid, I learned how to sew with my Mom. Those early days, filled with the rhythmic hum of the sewing machine and the vibrant colors of fabric scraps, planted the seeds of a lifelong passion. It wasn’t long before I was making my own clothes, doll clothes, and eventually clothes for my friends. I have fond memories of crafting outfits that were the talk of the school corridors. Remember Jams and Parachute Pants? I made those for myself and all my friends in High School! Each stitch was a statement of creativity and individuality.

College seemed to pass by in a blur, driven by my fervor for a career in the fashion industry. My dreams led me to the bustling streets of New York City in 1994. The city, with its relentless energy and endless opportunities, became my playground. I immersed myself in the world of fashion, soaking in every bit of knowledge and experience. But amidst the glamour and excitement, I realized something profound. While I loved fashion, my heart yearned for something different.

A serendipitous vacation to the Florida Keys in my mid-20s became a turning point. The serene beauty and laid-back lifestyle of the islands captivated me. It was here that I made a bold decision to swap my fashion ambitions for a try at Interior Design. This change of scenery also marked the beginning of a new chapter in my professional life. I sought out work with an upholsterer, eager to learn more than just the basics. The tactile nature of upholstery and the transformation of old into new spoke to my creative soul.

Our first big job took us to The Fairmont Orchid Hotel on the big island of Hawaii. It was an experience like no other. Day after day, we tore apart and put back together sofas and chairs, made outdoor cushions, and fabricated coordinating pillows and bedskirts. The meticulous process of creating something beautiful from scratch was immensely satisfying. In less than two months, armed with newfound skills and confidence, I flew home and started my own business, making custom linens - everything from pillows and bedskirts to duvets and headboards.

There are very few days in my life that I did not sit behind a sewing machine for at least a few moments. I’ve been threading sewing machines and threading needles for all my life, pulling threads, ripping threads, matching threads. You could say I’m Threaded. This deep connection with my craft permeates every aspect of my life. The satisfaction of a perfectly matched seam, the joy of a finished project that exceeds expectations - these moments define me. Sewing is the love of my life.

CCL Threaded is more than a business; it’s a manifestation of my journey and love for creating beautiful, functional pieces. From fashion to interiors, my story is one of transformation, resilience, and relentless pursuit of passion. Every project, whether it’s a simple cushion or an elaborate upholstery job, is handled with the same level of care and attention to detail. It’s this dedication that has earned me the trust and loyalty of my clients.

As I look back on my journey, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences and people who have shaped my path. My Mom, who first introduced me to the world of sewing, the mentors and clients who believed in me, and the endless opportunities to learn and grow. Each challenge and triumph has been a thread in the tapestry of my life, making it richer and more vibrant. Looking ahead, I am excited about the future of CCL Threaded. The world of interior design is ever-evolving, and I am committed to staying at the forefront of trends and techniques. My aim is to continue delivering high-quality, custom solutions that meet the unique needs and preferences of my clients. In conclusion, my journey from fashion to interior design has been a remarkable adventure. It has taught me the value of passion, hard work, and continuous learning. CCL Threaded is a celebration of this journey, embodying the spirit of creativity and dedication that defines me. I invite you to be a part of this story, to explore the world of custom linens and upholstery, and to experience the magic of being Threaded.
